Meet The Team
Charles Penan
Charles Penan has over 20 years and $4 billion of closed commercial real estate transactional experience that includes: construction loans, senior debt, bridge financing, mezzanine, joint venture equity, revolving credit facilities and lines of credit for all types of commercial real estate nationwide. Penan has closed in excess of 225 transactions with over 75 unique lenders.
Prior to co-founding The CRE Capital Group, Mr. Penan spent 14 years at Aztec Group. Previously, Mr. Penan spent five years at Cohen Financial and two years with Northmarq Capital, formerly Legg Mason Real Estate Services.
Mr. Penan has been a resident of South Florida for over 25 years and is an active Board member of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Mr. Penan was honored as a member of South Florida Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2014, Real Estate Florida’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2009, and Real Estate Florida’s Top 30 Under 30 in 2008.

Jason Shapiro
Jason Shapiro brings over 30 years of experience in commercial real estate investment banking. Mr. Shapiro’s primary focus is arranging and closing all forms of commercial real estate debt, including permanent, bridge, construction, mezzanine, and participating loans, as well as equity and joint venture placements. Shapiro has been involved in and closed transactions spanning all commercial and residential real estate asset types totaling multiple billions of dollars and encompassing tens of millions of square feet.
Prior to co-founding The CRE Capital Group, Mr. Shapiro spent over 20 years at Aztec Group where he was responsible for the origination, structuring and closing of complex debt and equity assignments across the real estate asset spectrum. Prior to his time at Aztec, Mr. Shapiro spent seven years at Thomas D. Wood & Company to start his career. While there, he was responsible for the origination and placement of long-term, stabilized income property loans on behalf of domestic life insurance companies, closing over 100 commercial real estate financing transactions.
